A few weeks ago, I watched a documentary about some event at Mecca. The Hajj I think. Then they came to this part about animals for sacrifice. They say that they never leave the place void of sacrificial animals during the whole period. Meat were also imported to make food for the poor and all that. All in all, there were a lot of animals.
Right now, it got me thinking about how many animals were needed back in Moses' time when God first gave instructions about sacrificing animals in the book of Leviticus. A female sheep or goat is needed for the sin offering of common people while cows, male goats or sheeps, and doves were needed for various other sacrifices. Now, look at the amount of people that were with Moses in the wilderness; about 600,000 people left Egypt from the iron grip of the pharoah but 3,000 died because they made a god out of the golden calf.
So, there will be about 597,000+/- people. It must have been such a big group. The China's Olympic stadium only fits 91,000 people, imagine how many stadiums would be needed to fit them in. No wonder the pharoah didnt want to let the Isrealites go. The loss may be an impact on Egypt's economy. However, the 600,000 people that I mentioned earlier were only 'fighting men' or soldiers, the number does not include women, children and not to mention animals.
Then, how many animals excatly were needed? Im sorry, its just impossible for me to write down a number. I have no idea about how many animals there will be.
Now, the priests will have to slaughter the sacrificial animals. The first high priest appointed was Aaron, Moses' brother. Most of the instructions given includes sprinkling or splattering the blood of the animal against the altar. I dont know about you but my imagination tells me that by the end of the day, the altar may probably be flooded by blood. Not to mention the conditions of the priests' robes when its all done. Imagine the amount of work and rituals that they have in those days and also the various smells, fragrant incense fills the most holy place while some other places reeked of animal dunk.
If Jesus had died for them in those days, Im sure that they will be eternally grateful. Literally. Well, I am too. Thank God that i dont need to worry about taking an animal to be sacrificed tomorrow for the wrong things that I've done today. Nor about how I'll forever live a doomed life coz my sins never seem to cease. Not to mention the cost of the animal that I'm going to sacrifice.
Now, all I have to do is just close my eyes and say a little prayer for forgiveness and I know that my wrongs will never be mentioned again. Ever.
